After many decades of academic secularism, we see that archaeologists and historians are regularly dismissive of Religion and often downright hostile.

Few in academia have bothered to read the Bible and even fewer have devoted significant time to its study. Centuries of history are explained away as fabrication, the stories in Scripture merely fables.

Excavating the Bible stands in rebellion against the suppression of religion in Western society. Its author, Yitzhak Meitlis, defends the historical accuracy of Scripture and brings the evidence to the general public. The Hebrew language edition has already been widely-read and debated in Israel.

Meitlis, an award-winning Professor of Archaeology in Israel brings something rare to the back and forth inquiry about the truth of the Bible. It is a deep love of the land of Israel and intimate knowledge of the Bible itself. Dr. Meitlis has built his argument on academic scholarship, excavations of colleagues and his deep familiarity with the geography of Israel.

Biblical archaeology is an imprecise scientific discipline, as the author himself explains, “Tangible finds such as inscriptions, pottery, foundations of buildings, and evidence of destruction must be given life and meaning in order to fit into an historical context.”

Were David and Solomon, in fact, powerful rulers of wide renown, for example, as indicated in the Bible or were they merely minor chieftains of insignificant stature as claimed by some modern-day historians?

These are not idle questions. In our own day, some in the Arab world are claiming, with the support of archaeological minimalists, that Ancient Israel is a myth, that no Temples ever existed in Jerusalem and that Israeli claims to Jerusalem are historically unfounded.

With great skill and meticulous methodology, Meitlis utilizes both the tools of modern archaeological research and his deep understanding of the ancient Near East. He leads the reader on a lively exploration of the ancient cities of the Judean Hills, and the birth of an Israelite nation and the people’s challenge to remaining a people committed to God as described in the Prophets and later Writings. The journey culminates in Jerusalem, where the reader watches the rise and fall of one civilization after another; views the audacious exploits that delivered the city into the hands of David; pictures its glory at the height of its power; and watches in horror as it meets its fiery end.

Key players in the drama of the ancient world come to life; royal servants and usurpers, revolutionary army commanders and mighty kings of Biblical fame - many of whom are recorded in the historical annals of their day.

This excursion through the terrain of the Bible that is found in Excavating the Bible is sure to astonish, even shock many of you, excite others and comfort those searching for validation of their beliefs. . It is a thought-provoking and captivating exploration of the Biblical era in all of its majesty.

Excavating the Bible New Archaeological Evidence for the Historical Reliability of Scripture edition by Yitzhak Meitlis Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews

WOW. I was truly impressed with this book. Instead of pandering to the achademic world's anti religious stance in which every word of the Bible is doubted, this book does the opposite. It shows, using archaeological evidence that the Bibles descriptions of the past are perfectly in sync with the facts on the ground. It is dense with detailed analysis and is a true pleasure for someone who has been thirsty for a book of this kind for a long time. Ultimately it shows how amorphous the conclusions of archaeology can be and it shows as well how strongly biased the achedic world is against the Bible. That bias is easy to understand. When the achademic world invalidates something in the bible, what do religious pleople do? Nothing, they simply bide their time and expect that something will revalidate it eventally (this happens all to often.) But the reverse is not true, when the Bible is shown to be valid in any way, it comes too close to blowing over the tower of cards that is Bible critisim. Since Bible critics are far more dogmatically fanatical than religious people, they must try whatever psoible to contort the facts on the ground to match their preconseived notions. So if you are a religeous person, this book will be a nice addition to your collection. If you are a bible critic, read this and you will squirm with discomfort and then run into the field, dig up an old bottle and say that it proves that the bible is wrong, somehow.
This book attributes it's true nature, in which was written in the forward. This book is not a collection of archeological evidence of proof the bible is accurate, instead i find it majorly lacking proof and ignoring arguments against what he's claiming to make his point. My problem isn't the nature of what he's writing, instead he makes his case using extremely disputed "evidence" without even revealing the dispute.

Some issues that really stand out in this book are as follows.
AI wasn't around at the time of the Patriarchs this is even noted by the author but basically shrugged off and mentioned no further.

The idea of the purchase at Hebron for the burial site is interesting and could fit but I would have to ask why an Egyptian controlled area would be following Hittite law? Also the tree evidence for the burial site is refuted by the fact that it was a common practice far later than the patriarchs. Also using a biblical timeline these laws were created around 1600 B.C. which would be around 400 years later than Abraham. It just doesn't add up.

Joseph sold for 20 pieces of silver,
I have heard that this is accurate and that it is not. So far Kitchens is the only person that has ever even made that claim as to the price accuracy and the argument is solely evidenced by the Bible. Instead we have to look at the fact that he was sold to a camel caravan and the prominence of camels throughout Genesis. These animals were domesticated and used around 1000 B.C in the Levant. This has been agreed by many zoo archaeologists and is only disputed because of Biblical text (Not that it's a bad thing). Even maximalists will say that they were being raised far to the east but there is no evidence of them anywhere near the time of Joseph.

There is more but this will suffice for my review.

As I read more I keep finding things that annoy me. I don't have a problem of his work or viewpoint it's more that he carefully picks and chooses his arguments so that it seems like what he is presenting is the complete picture and undoubtedly correct, when it very much isn't.
I am about half way through,
The points that others make about inconsistency between the current popular conventional assigned dates and the Torah narrative and timeline, are going to be a problem for everyone who tries to mix.
To reconcile simply use the RCCF to calibrate the current convetional dates w/ the actuality ofhe Torah low chronology time line testimony.
Knowing that, this book is excellent.
